Roof investigation, consultation with the North Carolina State Historic Preservation office, and research for materials were all part of the preliminary design process.
Shingles were hand split from
cypress logs, dredged from the swamps of Florida.
Extensive detailing was required for swept valleys,
fanned hips and the cone-shaped roof of the apse.
