Shingle reroofing design first required an investigation of the gypsum plank deck. The design incorporated overlaying the gypsum deck with the plywood and securing this to the deck with special fasteners. This provided a suitable substrate for the shingles.
A stone-ballasted, heat-weldable, single-ply membrane was utilized on the flat roofs, with a narrow area of fully adhered membrane at the base of the shingles.
Many details were required,
such as the interface between the single-ply membrane
and the sills of the clerestory windows and the parapet
flashings.
